Medical Billing Services in Louisiana
Louisiana’s Medicaid program is in the middle of a plan transition, and that is exactly when billing revenue slips: members get reassigned, authorization pathways change, and a service approved under one plan’s rules can reject once the member lands somewhere new. A practice billing through this transition needs its plan of record checked on every visit, not assumed from the last one.
MedPlus RCM provides medical billing, coding, credentialing, and denial management for Louisiana practices of every specialty, built around the state’s actual payers and programs.
Louisiana’s payer landscape
Louisiana Medicaid runs through Healthy Louisiana, delivered by managed care plans. As of 2026, five plans serve members: Aetna Better Health, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana, Healthy Blue, Humana Healthy Horizons in Louisiana, and Louisiana Healthcare Connections (Centene). Two transitions are underway. UnitedHealthcare Community Plan exited the program effective April 1, 2026, with its members moved to new plans. Healthy Blue’s contract ends December 31, 2026, and beginning January 1, 2027, Healthy Louisiana services will be provided through four plans only: Aetna Better Health, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana, Humana Healthy Horizons in Louisiana, and Louisiana Healthcare Connections. Practices should verify each member’s current plan and the continuity of existing authorizations through the change, rather than billing from a prior plan assignment.
Commercial coverage runs through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and HMO Louisiana, alongside Ambetter and UnitedHealthcare. Note that the Healthy Blue Medicaid exit does not affect private Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana coverage, which is a separate book.
What MedPlus RCM handles for Louisiana practices
- End-to-end medical billing. Charge entry, claim scrubbing, submission, payment posting, and patient billing, the full cycle.
- Medical coding. Certified coders assign current ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes matched to your documentation and specialty.
- Provider credentialing and enrollment. End-to-end enrollment with Healthy Louisiana plans, commercial payers, and Medicare, plus re-credentialing maintenance.
- Denial management and recovery. Every denial investigated to root cause, corrected, and appealed with documentation.
- A/R recovery. Aged and outstanding balances audited and pursued, including balances already written off where the appeal window is still open.
- Financial reporting. Clean claim rates, collections, denial patterns, and A/R aging visible by payer and provider.
We serve practices statewide, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Lafayette, Lake Charles, and Monroe, across specialties including primary care, mental and behavioral health, cardiology, orthopedics, dermatology, and physical therapy.
