Medical Billing Services in New Mexico

New Mexico’s billing picture is shaped by a Medicaid program that changed names and lineups recently, a large rural population, and a border-region patient flow around Las Cruces and the El Paso metro. Practices that still bill from an old Centennial Care playbook, or that assume every Medicaid patient sits with the same plan, will run into avoidable denials. The current program has its own plan roster and its own paneling rules, and those have to be verified patient by patient.
MedPlus RCM provides medical billing, coding, credentialing, and denial management for New Mexico practices of every specialty, built around the state’s actual payers and programs.

New Mexico’s payer landscape

New Mexico Medicaid is delivered through Turquoise Care, the state’s Medicaid managed care program, which replaced Centennial Care on July 1, 2024. Members choose among four managed care plans: Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico, Molina Healthcare, Presbyterian Health Plan, and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. All four offer the same baseline Medicaid benefits, but each runs its own provider network and value-added services, so paneling and authorization rules differ by plan. Native American Medicaid members may choose managed care or fee-for-service Medicaid.
Commercial coverage runs through many of the same carriers, including Presbyterian Health Plan and Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico, alongside Molina Healthcare and UnitedHealthcare. Medicare Part B for New Mexico is administered by Novitas Solutions under Jurisdiction H. Practices in the southern part of the state also see patients carrying Texas or border-region coverage, which makes front-end eligibility verification even more important.
